Abstract

The question that guides the mixed methodology case study research presented here seeks to know what follows: what are the characteristics of the citizen participation practices of the councilors members of the Citizen Participation Councils of the Municipality of Puebla? By answering this question empirically in a case study, the results of this work provide qualitative and quantitative material that, although exploratory in scope, explains and describes different aspects and dimensions that shape the practices of the councilors that participate in these organisms, which in part are assimilated to certain direct and indirect lobbying strategies. Collected through focus groups and a survey, the results of this work represent a contribution to lobbying studies in Mexico, especially in local government contexts and linked to different mechanisms of citizen participation. Likewise, they present the partial advances of the titled investigation project in course, “Lobbying in the Citizen Participation Councils of the Municipality of Puebla: elements and tools for a successful citizen participation”.
